AI in accounting masterclass

Our full-day masterclass is designed to equip finance professionals with the knowledge and tools to understand and implement artificial intelligence within their accounting practices. Through expert-led sessions and hands-on collaboration, you’ll explore the fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI), identify practical use cases in accounting, and develop a tailored pilot ready for deployment in your organisation. 

Join us as we cover: 

1. Setting the scene: Leading through change with AI 

Hear from The Hon. Victor Dominello, former New South Wales Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government, as he explores the broader context of AI and how leadership can drive successful transformation. We’ll explore: 

  • The role of AI in shaping the future of work 
  • Leading through digital disruption 
  • Building a culture of innovation and adaptability 
  • Setting expectations for AI adoption in finance.

2. Understanding AI in finance: Laying the groundwork 

Delivered by Professor Paul Andon, Senior Deputy Dean (Education and Student Experience) UNSW Business School, this session will provide foundational knowledge on AI and its relevance to finance teams. Learn how to identify opportunities and think strategically about AI in accounting. Professor Andon will consider: 

  • What AI is and isn’t – demystifying the technology 
  • Key AI capabilities relevant to finance 
  • Identifying use cases and opportunities 
  • Thinking critically about AI’s role in accounting workflows. 

3. Planning your AI journey: From concept to strategy 

This collaborative session, led by Fahim Khondaker and Nick Fox, will help you define your AI focus area and begin shaping a practical use case. You’ll explore what is needed for successful AI adoption, and how to align AI adoption with your organisation’s goals. We’ll look at: 

  • Mapping your AI journey 
  • Selecting a process or area of focus 
  • Aligning AI use cases with business priorities 
  • Identifying enablers and barriers to implementation. 

4. Doing the work: Designing and preparing your AI pilot 

Turn ideas into action by developing a tailored AI use case and preparing a pilot for deployment. This hands-on session will guide you through the practical steps needed to bring your AI initiative to life as we go through: 

  • Building a use case framework 
  • Defining success metrics and outcomes 
  • Preparing for deployment and stakeholder engagement 
  • Tools and resources to support implementation 
  • Measuring success and identifying areas for improvement.
